Great museum, definitely a must...
I think you guys are great for keeping the Marx toys in peoples minds. I played with Marx farm play sets and the other Marx animal toys including the the forest animals and zoo animals. I also had the Marx Fort Apache set and the Alamo set. I had parts of the Ben Hur set. I loved the Marx horses and I still have some of my horses up on my nik nak shelf. I am in the process of trying to aquire all of the Marx and Auburn Rubber toys I once had. It is going to be a task but, I plan to keep searching until I have all my childhood toys back safe and sound. My biggest quest is to find all the Marx "Prize Winning Livestock" that came with my Sears, Happitime farm set. I got it for my Birthday in Dec.1959. That was my favorite farm set. I had painted all my livestock so they looked real. I was very particular about what my animals looked like and I took very good care of them. It was by an accident that my animals & farm sets were mistakenly given away. Much to my dismay! Sorry for the long read. Well, thats my story and glad I have a place to come and look for Marx toys. ....LOL...Susie

I heard about your museum on "Made In America" and decided to visit your web site. I have relatives in Martinsburg, WV and next time I visit them I plan on taking a long drive to see the museum. See you then!
I just ran into Francis at the West Liberty Graduation yesterday were old working companions even tho he has a hard time remembering me at the time. But he told me about this museum and i think it's great and i am planning to come and see it and enjoy it. Francis Turner always has been a hard worker and believed in doing it right.
I GREW UP IN THE LATE 50,S AND 60,S AND MARX TOYS WERE ALWAYS MY FAVORITE TOYS TO PLAY WITH.I ALWAYS ASKED "SANTA" FOR MARX CARS AND TRUCKS AND HE ALWAYS CAME THROUGH FOR ME.I THINK HE MUST HAVE HAD A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MARX TOY CO.I ENJOY COLLECTING TOYS I HAD WHEN I WAS A BOY.I STILL HAVE ONE OF MY METAL SEVICE STATION SETS I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS IN 1965. THROUGH THE YEARS I HAVE LOST THE CARS THAT CAME WITH THE SET;BUT I STILL HAVE ALL THE OTHER PARTS THAT CAME WITH IT.I ALSO HAVE MY MARX ELECTRIC TRAINS I HAD AS A CHILD.THEY STILL RUN VERY WELL BUT THEY DO SHOW A LOT OF PLAY USE! THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL TOYS AND THE MEMORIES THAT WILL STAY IN MY MIND AND HEART FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.GREAT WEB SITE! MARX TOYS;HAVE YOU ALL OF THEM? I HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON,JIM SMITH
Howdy... I got a Big Loo for Christmas in'63, And have had my friend ever since...He always goes with me everywhere I go....about 6 or 7 residential moves since Big Loo was taller than I was. A big thrill to know he is STILL appreciated! Sincerely, Jeffrey 05/12/04. P.S. I really would like to know how I can 'restore' my buddy. Please email me at : CHURCHMOUSE333@AOL.COM Thanks and a big handshake is in order!!!
I started collecting Marx toys about a year ago. Last week I found an original Fort Dearborn in the original box. I also have a 1983 Collector edition Fort Apache, some Marx trucks ,and two Marx trains. I love finding these great toys.
hi. I'm 51..and have alot of Marx toys, trains, cars, action figures, and the farm and Civil war, and army outfits.... There is a toy by marx that I have that I can't find anywhere in my books or on the net...it is like a wacky friction car, the jalopy style that they spread apart from the hood back when they're running...I have a Rooster driving this car...must be looking in all the wrong places... thanks for the tour...next time I'm up around Moundsville, I'll try to stop in...thanks..Londy
The displays at the museum are very well arranged. Especially liked is the "1950s room" and the Coca-Cola/popcorn stand.
Hi Guys: This looks great! This is the first time I've looked at the site. I guess I'll see you guys on the July 4th weekend.
GREAT PLACE TO VISIT.HELPFUL FRIENDLY PEOPLE.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.BILL MARSTON and SHIRLEY JONES.
GREAT IDEA
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY THING LIKE IT. THE BEST OF THE BEST IN MARX TOYS AND THEY ARE DISPLAYED PERFECTLY....I AM SO GLAD I MADE THE TRIP. THANK YOU
A friend of mine and I took a motorcycle ride to WV and stopped at your museum. It is an incredible place. We not only enjoyed the museum, but was impressed with the hospitality of the owner. We are planning a return trip. Thank you for the enjoyable day. Tedcarnut@aol.com
My wife and I visited the museum about a week ago. Now 47, I was lucky enough to own a number of these Marx creations as a child. Bits of steel and lumps of plastic, they fueled my imagination and now occupy a very special place in my heart. Here stands the Great Garloo, my all time favorite. There appear the six inch Universal Monsters, cavemen, Vikings and knights I remember so well. Along another wall rise row after row of colorful playsets that once brought history to life so vividly, from a chariot race in ancient Rome to the space race at Cape Canaveral. Our visit was a terrific way to spend a summer afternoon. Wonderful displays in a clean, fun environment tended by friendly, informative people: what more could you ask for? I strongly recommend that you pay your own visit to the Marx Toy Museum sometime soon. Images of Christmases past and recollections of your happiest hours will flood back in a rush, and you'll depart with a broad smile that won't soon leave you. It's a slice of Baby Boomer heaven (not to mention the home of the best popcorn around, according to my wife). It may be near Glen Dale, but its true address is Memory Lane. Thanks, guys.
Really like the Marx website. What happened to the British WWII 3" army men? Please email the response to cmazz@winfirst.com. thanks, Chris
I would like to let you know that I have beautiful Marx "Big Shot" Cannon Truck in the original target box. I like to collect Marx toys. Thank you for your attention. Chris Mazzarella, cmazz@winfirst.com
It's great to finally see a picture of the Marx farmset that my brother and I so thoroughly enjoyed as boys. It was incredibly detailed and complete and included the crossover implements from horse-power to tractor. I'd love to find one for sale at some point. I get through WV occassionally. Althoug Wheeling is a little out of the way, hopefully I'll stop there some time.
GREAT SITE!! FRANCES TURNER IS THE BEST!! I ENJOYED BEING A PART OF "JOHNNY HITS THE ROAD", AND ALSO MAKING NEW FRIENDS ON THE CIRCLEXRANCH ON YAHOO. JUST WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE AT THE MUSEUM. HAPPY TRAILS GUYS!! ;) DIANE
Hi. I would like to see smoe better pictures of Jesse James and your new Jed Gibson. Great website and I would like to come to the museum some day. Greg
We visit family from time-to-time in NW/MD and WV...enjoyed the Travel Channel Special today regarding the Marx Museum. Looking forward to "swinging by" in the next few months to visit. We are "40's" kids..."60's parents" so....well, you know we remember. Thanks!
I really enjoyed the pctures of the mseum, I am a real big Johnny West fan and collector. After looking at this site I really want to come and see the museum, with my family.
This a dream I can't wait to come and see it up close. I am a big Johnny West collector and a toy fan of all kind. My kids will love to see the stuff I hade as a kid.
All I can say is THANK YOU. Your site brought back SO MANY fond memories!

I never knew alot about Marx Toys until my parents told me how collectible they are. Both of my parents worked in the Marx factory years ago and recently we found 2 old Disney figures. I am now on the quest to find out how much they are worth. If anyone has a clue, please e-mail me at CRAZYANDINSANE@aol.com
Interesting site.Recently got back into toy soldiers. Todays toys are so boring and cheaply made. Video games and such. Although a little expensive the quality is worth it to see such detail and craftmanship in the products of the 50's. I was looking for Halsey, Patton and Doolittle to complete a set of Marx WWII generals. I found your site in the process. Very well done. Next time I head up to Harpers Ferry I will have to include Glendale if possible.
As a toy museum owner of sorts myself, I congratulate you upon your success. Marx toys have always been a favorite of mine and your collection of those fine products is an inspiration to fellow collectors worldwide. Thank you for allowing us in for a glimpse of your wonderful museum.
What a wonderful nostalgic site; looking at the pictures takes me back to the excitement of Christmas and the wonderful toys my Parents and Grandparents purchased for me. What I wouldn't do for a Blue-Gray playset again.............thanks!!!!
Great site and great Museum. I worked at Marx in the early 70's in the assembly room and on the demo line in Wheeling. I worked with great people and it was a special time for me. I must make one small correction in your piece The King Figure about Floyd "Joe" Chamberlain. You have him graduating from John Marshall High School in 1939 when in fact JMHS didn't open until 1969. He may have gone to Union or Moundsville HS instead.
I found your web site through e-bay. How wonderful it was to look at all of the toys I played with as a child!!! I think it's wonderful that you have dedicated a museum to Louis Marx and his company.

Love the phots of the play sets... brings back lots of memories.
I was employed by Marx in Glendale in 1952-53, I worked for Paul Melanko, & drove a forklift keeping press operators supplied with huge boxes of material. The line I worked made forts, trucks, tractors & trailers, gas stations & many other items. Our feet were always cold. While hurrying from one section to another, going backwards at a high speed, I'd neglected lowering my hoist & nearly took out a low doorway, upset the forklift & fortunately was not injured. Not too many in management were happy when the collision occurred, but I was permitted to keep my job. A large group of us ate lunch outside sitting on the RR tracks, (weather permitting) I was there when a press operator lost his hand, was given a good life time job & was later fired for theft, (stealing boxed toys). I worked with a woman whose brother was executed by the state of Ohio for a rape/murder he committed while driving a taxi in Bellaire. I consoled her the day he was put to death. Without a car, I took a bus from Shadyside to Bellaire, walked across the Bellaire Bridge, then met the fellow employee that drove myself & 3 others to work in his 1948 Plymouth Business Coupe. It was a three passenger vehicle but we somehow squeezed five in. The procedure was reversed in the afternoon. I still have an un-cashed paycheck for $2.41. Bill Sine Bsine1@aol.com (330)882 6600
Great site. I received a marx play set every Christmas from 1958 - 1964. The first was Ft Apache and the last was the Centinal Cival war set. Yes I still have them all. Cape Canaraval is nearly gone but Robin Hood, FT. Apache, The Blue and Grey, The Alamo, are nearly complete. I never got Zorro or the Foriegn Legion set. But I have forgave my parents. I did have a small western set with cardboard buildings and a wind up train. I have never seen that set anywhere. I do not have any other wild west sets. I recently saw the Rifleman, Zorro, Roy Rogers Mineral city and Wells Fargo all going for lots of money on ebay. the most expensive I have seen is Border Battle and D-DAy. I have the Knights and castle. Castle is gone now. I have a huge Ft Apache now that includes the original pioneers, Ft. Dearborne and the entire Marx 7th calvary. I have some Blue Devil figures. I also have a very large Cival war set now. I have over 400 cival war figurers mostly Marx and I am missing a hospital wagon and the exploding bunker. I also have close to 400 Indians and 250 Calvary. I only have about 50 Cowboys and miners. I am trying to talk my wife into visiting Glen Dale for some vacation time. Wish me luck. Thank you for the web site. Fifty years of collecting now. I wish i new why. John
I'm glad to see that you exist! Two days ago an old Marx Union Pacific passenger train set was given to me. As I looked at your site I saw my gas station I had as a kid! It's long gone. However, now I will be trying to identify this train's age, and where to get a curved track and some engine window parts to complete it. I was told it was from the 30's but that hasn't been varified. The box was destroyed and the cars need some cosmetic restoration help in regard to rat urine generated bits of corrosion. It will never look as good as what is on your web site. Evidently the toys you show were never played with! It's a nice site. I wish you showed more toys, and in greater detail. It could be a great collector's resource if it included dates of manufacture and other historically pertinenet info. But I know how much work goes into creating a museum, not to mention a site. I'll stop in if I ever get near you. Ted Baumgart: baumgartstudio@earthlink.net
Great site! Brings back many fond memories. Skip
I am looking for any information on any pricings for a 1961 "The Great Garloo" in its original box. If anybody has any information contact me at pakerfan01@yellowsnow.com. thanks a bunch!
We liked visiting the museum. It was a long ride but worth it! The museum was interesting and the guided tour offered more history than we knew. Thank you for a great visit.
My father, Herbert Yoho, delivered milk to the Glendale plant for many years. As a boy, I would help dad on his route and looked forward to the stop at the plant even though the noise and big machines scared me. I always hoped I would come away with a toy in one of our stops but alas it never happened. I had to wait for Santa........... Tim Yoho
Well, let me say first of all that I am THRILLED to discover your museum and thrilled with the photos. I can't wait to visit! I love the playsets and would love the see more of them with more info (i.e., I saw the "Ward's Service Station"--was there one for Sears as well? Also, I would love to see more dollhouses!!! I think the styles and litho on them really speak to the times in which they were built...from the tin litho with the bomb shelter right on to the Imagination Dollhouse, which my father bought me as a little girl. Oh! And where's the creme of the crop--the Skyscraper! :)
Wow....it sure took me back a lot of years ago when I was just a little girl... The first Marx toy I got was a beautiful large doll house. I spent many hours playing with it. It came in real handy on those rainy saturday afternoons! Thank you for allowing us to step in and look at these precious pieces of our past childhoods. It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside! :)

I used to have your Fort Apache playset and Robin Hood playset! I spent countless hours playing with them! I enjoyed them very much! We did not have video games back in the 1950s, but these playsets sure provided me with a lot of good entertainment! I will never forget these "great" sets! Thanks for the memories!

JUST A NOTE TO SAY HOW MUCH I ENJOYED THE ONLINE MUSEUM TOUR. HOWEVER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO SEE SOME OF THE MARX BRITISH TOYS THAT WERE AVAILABLE DURING THE 60'S AND 70'S IN THE UK.
I LIKE THE MUSEUM. BUT I WISH IT HAD MORE ON THE BIG WHEEL. ALSO BIG WHEEL RELATED ITEMS IN ITS GIFT SHOP.
